Title: “Stop Sparking, Start Choosing”

Joy, not grit, is the hallmark of holy obedience. We need to be light-hearted in what we do to avoid taking ourselves too seriously. It is a cheerful revelation against self and pride. – Richard Foster.

Joy inverts heavy and light.

Joy inverts short and long.

Joy is the serious business of heaven. – CS Lewis

Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it everyday.- Henri Nouwen

Romans 14:17

If you’ve got the wrong fruit you won’t stay connected to the source.

Burnout is work without joy.

Fun matters

If it has to be sparked, it will go out.

You don’t spark joy, you choose Jesus.

As you reflect on the message this week, use some of these questions to consider how God might be working within and around you.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Where have you experienced the joy God wants for you in your faith journey? Where do you need more joy?

  • What does it mean that joy inverts heavy and light and short and long?

  • What is the difference between something “sparking joy” and abiding in God as the source of your joy?

  • What does it look like for you to start choosing joy in your own life?

  • Where have you been looking for the sparking of joy rather than choosing Jesus as the source?
