Sermon Title: “Breathe Deep”
October 27, 2019
In this passage, Jesus:
1. Proclaims, not suggests, peace.
2. Offers evidence for why they should believe in him based upon an event.
3. Calls them to continue his work.
4. Breathes on them.
You need breath to have life.
What you breath in becomes part of you.
The Breath of God is the Life of Men.
The promise of Jesus is not that he will give us life, but that he will give us himself and that he is life.
We function more like the mannequin than the cadaver.
Breath is ignored until it is absent, then it is a crisis.
There is power in your bones when it is filled with the breath of God.
God fills the bones with life, but he doesn’t proclaim life over them. He tells Ezekiel to proclaim it.
Questions for Reflection:
What seems dead in your life with little hope of awakening?
Where might you be experiencing a rattling – the first rumbling of a resurrection?
What do you need to proclaim life over this week?
What are you breathing?
