Sermon Title: “Follow Fail”

Title: “Follow Fail”

We think God is going to discipline us for our behavior, but the consequences are built-in.

God is not nearly concerned with your morality, as he is your character.

We don’t become what we want to be, we don’t become who we think we’re becoming, we become what we follow.

The essence of salvation is what we believe, but the essence of formation is who you follow.

If I’m not becoming who I want to be it’s not a failure of information, it’s a failure to follow.

Make your life bigger than yourself.

As you reflect on the message this week, use some of these questions to consider how God might be working within and around you.

Questions for Reflection:

  • Which do you think has more influence on your character development – your personal desires and intentions, or the people, things, etc that you surround yourself with?

  • How do you respond to the statement that God is not nearly as concerned about your morality as he is about your character?

  • Can you think of someone in your life who allowed who they were following to shape who they became? Have you ever considered how you might be shaping others?

  • How often do you carefully consider your personal formation – the influences that are shaping who you become?

  • What are you currently following?

  • What is one thing that you can unfollow this week?
