What does it mean for your organization to stay on mission? Is it something that is written on a document, tucked away in a folder somewhere? Or is it something the members of your organization carries with them through every meeting, conversation, decision, or dream? We’ll talk today about how important it is for your team to carry the core of your mission in order to move it forward.

Main Idea:
The core is your mission, vision, values.
Mission:  Why do we exist
Vision: What do we seek to see because we exist?
Value: How we do what we helps us acomplain our why.
Other Essential Values: Hope team values. Trust Code Values.

What’s at Stake:
Organizations naturally drift, not drive toward the mission.
If organizations naturally drift, then carrying the core intentionally drives toward the mission.

What Can We Do? Carry the Core:

START WITH THE CORE
– The Core should be the ice-breaker! Every meeting should begin with your mission statement.
– Share the vision through story.
– Celebrate your values at work.

ASSESS WITH THE CORE
– The Core should become the lens by which we determine success or failure.

ADDRESS WITH THE CORE
– The Core should be the foundation for dealing with conflict.
– Hard conversations can’t happen if you don’t know where you want to go.

ACTIVATE [PLAN] WITH THE CORE
– The Core should determine your course of action.
– The Core determines the purpose behind your plan.
