Boundaries. Who needs them? We all need boundaries if we want to lead at our full capacity and focus on moving the mission forward. In today’s podcast, we talk with Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Becky Brown, about how important boundaries are and ways to set better boundaries for success in our lives.

Becky has been with New Life Ministries for over 20 years. She began her work with New Life Clinics in private practice and was part of the Counselor network from its beginning. Becky has worked at the New Life Workshops since 2003. Becky is the co-author of Understanding and Loving a Person with Bipolar Disorder, 100 Days to Freedom from Fear and Anxiety and 100 Days to Freedom from Anger. Becky is also a co-producer and writer for Life Recovery Today TV.

MAIN IDEA:

What is a boundary?

Boundaries are a defining line.

Boundaries are like a fence.

Boundaries allow us to live out of responsibility and not reactivity.

Other’s feelings aren’t for you to own.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

When we have boundaries that are being crossed, we begin to live in reactivity.

Living in reactivity takes us away from living within our motivations.

Through our boundaries, we teach people how to treat us.

You need boundaries when you feel someone is taking over you.

Some examples of boundaries: Gifts, talents, skills, time, space, and values.

Red Flags when missing boundaries:

Abuse.

Neglect.

Diminished value.

Lack of worth.

No agency for yourself.

Resentment.

Bitterness.

WHAT IS AT STAKE?

Without boundaries, we become distracted by caring for others above ourselves and we miss out on living within our purpose.
