Title: Act Like an Owner
Key Points:
- Jesus is the center of God’s story.
- Jesus shows us you do not work your way to God, but God works his way to you.
- If God makes his way toward you, then you need to make your way towards others.
Discussion Questions:
- Thinking back about the chairs, how did you relate or not relate to the example of how we view God?
- What have been ways you have seen God work his way to you? What impact did that make in your life? How has that changed your perspective of hope?
- Brad says that one invite can change a life. Who are you wanting to invite to church and why? What are the potential things that can change in their life if they sense God is pursuing them?
Background Information:
This week’s sermon is taken from the Gospel of John. There are four gospels in the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Each one is an account of the life of Jesus. While the first three are very similar to each other, John has some unique characteristics. He was one of his disciples, was formally a fisherman, and people believe his account was written before the other three.
At the time he wrote it, there were many that believed in the creation of the world, but not everyone believed the same thing of how it was created. John links one word “logos” between two people. It was the word he used to describe Jesus. But it had many meanings back then. It meant “the word” and “reason.” The beauty of John chapter 1 was the author connected Jesus to all people by explaining it in a way that everyone (Jew or Greek) could understand.
