Claim Your Identity

January 7, 2024

Key Points

  • Identity lives on the other side of the struggle.
  • Don’t let the past damage your identity.
  • Holy ground is where you claim your identity.
  • Practical steps to standing on holy ground :
    • Making church a weekly priority (Becoming Early People)
    • Giving God the first five minutes (Bible app, praying, giving thanks)
    • Having a plan to read God’s word.

“I AM because God is The Great I Am. My identity isn’t found in the superficial self-help schemes of this world, or the past hurts, sins, or mistakes of my life. I know who I am because I stand on holy ground. I am someone who intentionally seeks daily intimacy with God so I can be set apart and step into the purpose God has for my life.”

Discussion Questions:

1) Have you let your struggle (your “Egypt”) damage your identity? Do you feel unworthy to fulfill the call that God has placed on your life? Why? Make a list of the lies that you believe about yourself (“I’m just a ____”, “I’m a failure”, “I’m not good enough”, etc.) Use the internet or your Bible index to find truths in Scripture that directly counter those statements. Example : “I am weak” —> “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength” Nehemiah 8:10
2) Standing on holy ground requires intentionality. It requires making God a priority in your life. Get a piece of paper or make a note in your phone : write down 3 ways that you will make God a priority in your life this week so that you can begin to step into the identity that has been given to you by God.
