How To Stay
August 22, 2021
Matthew 27:11-26, Philippians 2:3-7, Luke 23:24, Matthew 6:14-15
The large offense creates the crisis, the small offense steals love.
The issue is self-interest.
Pilate identified their self-interest but couldn’t see his own.
Sanctification = Becoming more like Jesus.
Forgive
Confront outside the crisis
Don’t own what isn’t yours
Get God’s perspective
Manifesto:
I don’t have to get blessed, I am blessed. Living in the favor of my Heavenly Father
My praise will be louder than my need, my God has made me well.
What is have is always enough for God to move, he is more than enough for all I need.
Rules are not my Savior, Rebellion is not my answer, I will cling to God alone.
I put his name on it, his purpose in it, His glory over it.
In plenty or in want. I am blessed, I will celebrate.
What I catch, I throw. Nothing is withheld.
I won’t pretend, I persevere, I’m coming back to Jesus.
The rain’s coming, and I’m ready.
Because this will work towards my sanctification, as I do the work of reconciliation.
Questions for Reflection:
Sometimes it take courage to go and sometimes it takes just as much courage to stay. Where is it more courageous to stay? What are some the little foxes in your life that make it more difficult?
Where do you usually react out of “self-interest?” What is your go to: leaving, confronting, ignoring, or judging?
Sanctification is losing our own self-interests in the pursuit of becoming more and more like Jesus. But we don’t often see our own self-interest without obstacles. Where do you see this in your own life, where have you recognized your own selfishness through relationships with other people?
Where do you need to work on catching the foxes? Forgiveness, confronting outside the crisis, not owning what isn’t yours, or praying and seeking counsel for God’s perspective?
