Key Points
- Maybe you’re walking with God, but still doing the things you wish you wouldn’t – you relate to Peter.
- The only thing you have control over is yourself.
- The baggage we carry is meant to make us better.
- Holy means healing.
- Our baggage is where God works.
- Be aware of your reactions. Ask yourself 5 questions:
- What happened?
- What am I feeling?
- What is the story that I’m telling myself?
- What does the Bible say?
- What counter-instinctual action is needed?
Discussion Questions:
1) Where in your life do you relate to Peter? Read Matthew 14 and John 21. Do you doubt where God is working? Do you say the wrong things? Do you compare your faith to other people’s?
2) Think about the “baggage” that you’re bringing into the relationships in your life : anger, resentment, jealousy, insecurity, fear? How have you seen God work in those areas? How is He refining you through that baggage?
3) Pastor Sheila mentions the importance of having people in your life that can call out your baggage and also having a devoted time with God each day where He can refine you. Who are those people in your life? Do you have a dedicated time with God each day? If not, what do you need to do to prioritize that?
4) Look at the 5 questions listed about in the “key points” section. Think of a situation in your life where walking through those questions could have improved an outcome or allowed God to work in a mighty way. Explain what might have been different.
