Make or Break
July 10, 2022
- You are responsible for the results of our life, but who is leading can make or break the outcome. In faith, results have little to do with HOW and everything to do with WHO.
- Without Jesus, life is indifferent.
With Jesus, life if completely different. - Choosing to follow or not follow Jesus could make or break the outcome.
Questions for Individuals/Connect Groups:
This week in church we learned about having the right outcome from our choices. Brad talks about how he has made choices in his past that have led to undesirable outcomes. Think about your life, when has there been a time when you have done something that has left you with a hard outcome because you didn’t listen to someone who loved you? What did you learn from that?
In his sermon Brad said, “Some of us are disappointed with the results of our life and our faith. And often what happens is we end blaming God or blaming others because we can’t see the results we desire—life doesn’t look the way we anticipated.” How is this true in the lives of people around you? How do you relate to this statement?
Read John 9. What are some things that stick out to you in this passage? The blind man in the story was being questioned by religious leaders because back then they deemed miracles valid based on their own criteria. How did the Pharisees react to what the blind man said once he told them a second time? (Hint: Read verse 34) Why do you think they were angry with him? What are some things we can learn from the Pharisee’s reactions in John chapter 9.
Now read ahead to see how the Pharisees interact with Jesus again. Let’s read John 10: 19-21 19 When he said these things, the people were again divided in their opinions about him. 20 Some said, “He’s demon possessed and out of his mind. Why listen to a man like that?” 21 Others said, “This doesn’t sound like a man possessed by a demon! Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” The religious people of that time had a hard time knowing whether Jesus was the son of God. Why do you think they were stuck in believing in their laws and traditions? In what way are we like them today? What ways can we get focused on “doing” the right things and not “being” Christ followers?
This week in church you learned about how Jesus healed a blind man in John 9. You saw how the blind man followed Jesus’ instructions after he put the mud on his eyes. What would have happened if the blind man would of chosen to not listen? Would he have been healed?
Just like the blind man, there are people in our lives that will try to help us. We all have parents to help us make good choices. What are some good choices your parents teach you to do?
When we make good choices and follow what the Bible says, we learn to shine Jesus’ light to others. What are some good choices that help us shining that light? Give examples of when you know you are doing the right thing for God.
Say a prayer. Spend a few minutes praying with your family about making the right choices in life. Sometimes we need help and sometimes we don’t want help. Pray that God can help you see the good in being helped and give you a desire to be a light for him. Here is the prayer:
“Lord, help me to know what choices I need to make for you. Help me to be open to getting help when I need it. Help me to be a light for you. Amen.”
