Unchained from Addiction

Key Points

A coping mechanism is anything that we use to numb and soothe our fear, frustration, failure, and fatigue.
Be careful what you think is common.
The Israelites replaced God with the very thing that enslaved them.

Discussion Questions:

1) Brad is talking about how to view our addictions. When he asked the questions of who was fearful, frustrated, fatigued, and failed; what did you think of that kind of situation? Did you identify with any of those?
2) Brad mentions he is most concerned about the people who don’t see themselves addicted to things because it seems “common.” What are your thoughts on this? How do we see things today that could be seen as addiction 50 years ago but are not seen that way anymore?
3) Brad says that without God, you will long for and desire what God has placed on you from the beginning, but it will always come back to your addictions. How is this true or not true in your perspective? What kind of hold do you think addictions have on us today?
