What Is Enough?

Questions for Individuals/Connect Groups:
In the story Pastor Sheila shared about Zoey, we have all struggled with having enough. Think about your life, what is something you have wanted more of and struggled with a scarcity mindset? How has that experience helped you in your maturity?
In John 21: 15- 23, Peter and Jesus talk about their relationship together. Look back at John 18: 17, 25- 27, Peter denied that he knew Jesus. With having that as a backdrop to John 21 (when Jesus is talking to him about feeding his sheep, why do you think Jesus asked Peter this question three times? What do you think Jesus was trying to teach to Peter?
What are some promises or things you are currently struggling with God over? How do you handle trusting Him when things are difficult to see past the current situation?
All of us can struggle with identity. We see people in the Bible question their potential and purpose regularly. We can each work towards successes and milestones that give us identity. Let’s look at the words from the song we sang at church:
I’m already loved.
I’m already chosen.
I know who I am.
I know what You’ve spoken.
I’m already loved.
More than I could imagine.
And that is enough.
How does this depict our relationship to Jesus when we are questioning our circumstances of having “enough”? Do you agree or disagree with this song? What words are harder for you to hear? How should this change the way we see our lives?
This week in kids’ church you learned that our relationship with Jesus makes us enough. Can you think about why we need to hear this? What are some things that can happen in school/ life that can make us feel like we aren’t good enough?
This week they showed a video about the people of God struggling with trust. They are called the Israelites and they had a hard time understanding why God wasn’t giving them a perfect place to live. Have you ever struggled with a place you have been? What is our normal reaction to things when places are uncomfortable?
The Israelites had to learn to trust God through a difficult journey. Although they complained, God continued to give them exactly what they needed. What are some of your needs that are given every day? (You might need to ask an adult to help you answer that one.)
In church you learned about a dollar bill and its worth. They taught that it was valuable no matter what happens to it. Can you show someone that example? Explain to them how our value is not based on what we do, but on our purpose. How does Jesus’ love change our purpose? (Hint: look back at question #1 for the answer!)
