Why Can’t I Forgive Them?

Title: Why Can’t I Forgive Them?

Key Points:

  • It’s hard to extend what you have not experienced. If you’ve experienced the forgiveness of God, you cannot NOT forgive the sins of others.
  • You can only carry what’s been covered.
  • “Your greatest sin is your failure to receive God’s forgiveness in your life.”
  • Living in the silence of your past carries a weight.
  • Confessing our sins is agreeing with God that our desires are not/were not His.

For Personal Journaling and/or Connect Groups:

  • We are called to forgive others – because the Kingdom of God and the forgiveness of God is for everyone. Think of a time in your life when it was hard to forgive someone. What did that feel like? Have you found the strength to forgive them now? How has that changed the situation/your relationship?
  • Has there been a time in your life when you’ve doubted that God TRULY has forgiven you or that your past is too broken for His redemptive grace? Why? Think of the story of David and how he proclaims that he is blessed because his sins are covered. Pray for peace and a true acceptance of the forgiveness that is being offered to you.
  • Who is someone you need to forgive? Is it another person? Is it yourself? Are there sins you are carrying that you are “hiding” and have not confessed? Begin to pray this week that you can extend and accept forgiveness and begin to experience what it means to be blessed by forgiveness.
